Leyliner 1.3 Patch Notes - The Great Fire


Leyliner v1.3 Overview

In this release, we're adding and tweaking basic systems to address some shortcomings in v1.2:

  • Ranged monsters: to make enemy threats more consistent and less spiky over a level
  • Shields: to let you respond to threats in an interesting way beyond pure damage
  • Phase reordering: monsters act before mana placement, so you have more control over where your mana is on the next turn
  • Mana placement: you've got a ton more breathing room now that mana can be placed onto items
  • Icon rework: you now see the number of the biggest status directly on a unit, which is crucial for play styles that lean on statuses heavily

Content wise, FIRE has been our focus  and while it isn't finished it is much more inline with the sorts of things we want to achieve with spells and color/elemental identities.

What's New

Fire Redesign

A bevy of new cards, new keywords, and sweeping balance changes have the Fire cards really cooking!

The most important thing to note is that BURNING stacks can go WAY higher than before, but decay exponentially over time instead of one at a time.

New keywords include:

- ENKINDLE: Target regains BURNING equal to the highest BURNING the monster has ever had.

- FLARE: Target immediately takes damage equal to its BURNING stacks.

- SPREAD: Target copies its BURNING to nearby units.

- POWERFUL: This spell gains double the benefit of Spell Power.

Enemy & Boss changes

- Enemies now indicate their intended attack.

- Ranged Enemies!

Shield

Shield spells now exist that allow you to block incoming damage from a chosen direction.  Shields are doubly effective against ranged attacks.

Shield spells, alongside damage spells, also benefit from Spell Power.

New Statuses

- New Status UI!

- Fire Immunity - Become immune to fire damage and BURNING.

- Tempered - Gain damage reduction per stack.

Balancing

- Monster health and spell damage has been largely rebalanced.

What's Changed  

Illuminated

  • OLD: Take 5% increased damage per stack.
  • NEW: Take 1 increased damage from spells per stack.  

Eclipsed

  • OLD: Reduce damage per stack by 3%.
  • NEW: Reduce damage per stack (remove all stacks upon triggering). 

Mana Placement

Items often hindered placement too much, now you can place mana on top of items. 

Bosses

Bosses no longer gain 75% damage reduction while in stasis.  Instead they gain flat damage reduction for each remaining non-boss enemy.

Thunderbolt

Now generates two mana per target struck.

Zap

Now features the new keyword POWERFUL.

Turn phase reordering

Monsters move before mana placement. Before, you couldn't reliably place mana where a monster was OR where it would go immediately after.

Free move changes

You can no longer move outside of your one Free Move per turn. Once all enemies are dead, you can freely move and all allies/mana gradually expire.

What Else?  

Misc changes

Monster threat view now toggle-able with the (T) key.  This view is enabled by default when choosing where to place the Leyliner on the level.

 

Misc Bug Fixes

Blood Riot now adds the correct number of berserk stacks. 
 

Our plans

 In future releases, you can expect similar focus on individual colors while we continue to bring the game as a whole up piece by piece.

We're aware that this release is not perfectly balanced or polished, but we think the foundation is a much better state. And frankly, the game is a lot more fun.
